December Newsletter

Parties, parties! This is what the kids have been doing this last month, going to Christmas parties - Father Christmas bringing presents was one of the highlights. Thanks to all the people who blessed the kids with Christmas parties and presents.

This was one of the children who came to us really sick, she only weighed 9kg and haD a CD4 count of less then 8.5% but was also not yet on ARV drugs. After closely monitoring her progress and acting at the right time we were able to get her on drugs and stabilize her. You can see from the pictures that her progress has been remarkable. She now weighs a healthy 16kg and can smile and play with the other kids. She will return home to her grandmother’s loving care in February, once “Doctor Lyn” is completely happy with her results.

Three months of hard work & lots of practice finally paid off when the children performed a series of Christmas carols for our volunteers & supporters. They were all very brave to sing in front of so many strangers and never forgot any of their words. Thanks to Aunty Barbara and Aunty Jennifer who organized the concert and to all those who came out to support our little rock stars.

Well, this past weekend one of the children found a spot on his back and told Aunty Barbara who looked, found there were more spots and realized that it was chicken pox .The kids at McAlpine find it fun to have spots. Now all the houses are under quarantine and we are waiting to see who will be the next one to have the spots.

In the New Year, our four oldest children are greatly anticipating the start of “big school”. For Lambano this is our first lot of children to go to primary school and we as the Lambano team are getting really excited but are also rather nervous. Our children are growing up so quickly!!!! They will attend the local primary school with whom we are building a really good relationship.

We have had some personnel changes in the management at Lambano, Kerry is sad to be leaving, but has decided to go back to school in Durban to do further studies in education and teaching. She will be replaced by Martha, who has recently returned to South Africa after two years of traveling. Martha has been a part of Lambano from the start and so is very well acquainted with all the children and the staff.  It’s great to have her back!!
